Cuando la presión arterial se mantiene constantemente alta—por encima de 130/80 mmHg—aumenta el riesgo de sufrir enfermedades del corazón, accidentes cerebrovasculares, daño renal y otros problemas graves. Por eso los médicos suelen recetar medicamentos como:
Inhibidores de la ECA
Betabloqueadores
Bloqueadores de los canales de calcio
Diuréticos
Estos fármacos ayudan a reducir la presión dentro de las arterias y a prevenir complicaciones. En muchos casos, son absolutamente necesarios, especialmente cuando los niveles de presión son peligrosamente altos o cuando los cambios en el estilo de vida aún no han surtido efecto.
